Tips For Your Hair During Quarantine

By practicing self-quarantine, everyone is trying to do their bit to combat the current COVID-19 pandemic. We are unfortunately living in unprecedented times, but that doesn’t mean your diet or hair has to suffer. When you’re stuck at home, you can do a lot of things to make good use of any free time.

Don’t Shampoo Your Hair Often
Shampoo is not bad for hair. Shampoo is an emulsifier; it captures sebum and dirt and washes it away. Washing your hair regularly is critical for healthy hair. However, not all shampoos are created equal. Some shampoos are too harsh, stripping the hair of its healthy, natural oils. Sulphate-free shampoos cleanse hair of excess oil and dirt without excessively drying the hair.

Washing your hair more than once a day is unnecessary, although the cleaning process itself might not actually damage your hair the most. The biggest risks to hair health is what happens to your hair while wet and the styling that is done after each wash. Hair is weakest when wet, so any manipulation (pulling, combing and drying your hair with heat) can stress your hair. Try limiting your shampoo routines to twice or thrice a week.

Avoid Brushing Your Hair Too Much
It is important for you to brush your hair as it speeds up their growth but do it gently. Hair brushing can distribute the natural oil on the scalp thoroughly in all parts of your head and improves your blood flow too. But too much brushing can lead to damage. Over-brushing will lift the cuticles of your hair and break them.

Avoid Hot Tools (or At Least Protect Your Hair From Them)
Heated styling tools can add insult to injury because we tend to use them more during the cooler months. Although blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons and hot rollers make your hair go from dull to va-va-voom - they’re also a big part of why they may be dry. Fact: Some flat and curling irons heat up to 450 degrees (That’s twice the temperature at which water boils!). Make sure to adjust the temperature settings on your styling tools to avoid damaging your hair, especially in the case of flat irons and rollers, which come in direct contact with dry hair.

Have A Balanced Diet
Make sure your diet has essential nutrients for the hair like biotin, folic acid and vitamins A, C, D and E. Vitamin E plays an important role when it comes to hair grooming.

Avoid Taking Hot Showers
Hot showers can be relaxing but unfortunately, they are not good for your hair. Washing your hair with hot water can strip natural oils from your scalp, making it more prone to getting damaged and weak. But that doesn’t mean you need to stand under cold shower because even this won’t help your hair growth. Try lukewarm water to wash your hair which will make your hair grow faster.

Stop Touching Your Hair All the Time
You want to minimize "traction," so any sort of tugging or pressure on the hair shaft. One of the biggest causes of unnecessary traction is constantly putting your hair into a tight ponytail. Twirling your hair or picking at split ends isn’t good eithe. To play it safe, do your best to leave your hair alone.

Give Your Hair Their ‘Me Time’
At times your hair needs to be left alone without you doing anything to them. Avoid using hair dryers, brushing wet hair or even chemical based harsh styling products. However, if you want, you can use a little hair oil on a regular basis to provide food to your hair which will enhance their growth as well as improve their strength.

Consider a silky pillowcase
Tossing and turning on a cotton surface causes friction therefore creating unnecessary knots, frizz and damage. Laying on smooth surfaces allows hair to flow and glide.
